Digital Delivery

Digital Delivery at NYSDOT

Digital Delivery is a broad concept involving the use of digital tools, 3D modeling, and data-driven workflows to improve efficiency and collaboration throughout the entire lifecycle of a transportation project. It’s the next big step in the industry, comparable to the migration from hand drafted plans to computer aided drafted plans. Implementing a digital data driven workflow will allow NYSDOT to streamline existing processes, utilize the latest tools and technologies in the office and in the field, provide information in the most efficient format, improve responsiveness, and better prepare us for the future.

Digital Delivery Committee

In 2018, a selected group was tasked with creating a process for delivering a 3D CAD model as part of the contract documents. The group was well represented by various functional groups in the Department including Structures, Highway, Construction, Legal and Contracts. A framework was established and the first digital delivery pilot project was awarded in 2020. The committee continues to meet once a month to hear feedback, work through concerns, set goals and provide direction. The committee maintains approximately 30 members, has representation from all (11) Regions and from (8) different functional groups.
